Fungi

One thing we that we learned from the eleven years that we lived in the Alpujarras is that good and bad years for searching wild mushrooms always alternate. There on the southern flanks of the Sierra Nevada we knew some good spots to look for edible 'níscalos'.

On a course organized by the University of Granada last year we learned more about toxic and edible species and about good places to find them. We prepared 'pie azul' for the first time as there was such a abundance of this 'Lepista nuda'. It was a nice coincidence that 2018 happened to be an excellent year for wild mushrooms.
We discovered a great spot for 'níscalos' near the jardín botánico La Cortijuela, but saw also many more beautiful species. Cumbres Verdes is an attractive place to photograph mushrooms on autumn walks. A nice gallery of photos of 'hongos' taken in the province of Granada can be found on Granada Natural.
