Cumbres Verdes

Cumbres Verdes is a tranquil neighbourhood of La Zubia with about two hundred inhabitants and situated in the Sierra Nevada Natural Park. It is a perfect gateway to the Sierra Nevada National Park. Because of its elevated position, around 1200 metres above sea level, the views and sunsets are often very nice.

There are two hotels, a B&B, a bar and a restaurant in Cumbres Verdes. Close to restaurant La Guitarra, the road turns into a dirt track and this leads to the country restaurant Fuente del Hervidero. In winter these restaurants might only be open in the daytime at weekends and during bank holidays. In La Zubia which is four kilometres from Casa Pontia there is a large choice of bars and restaurants.

From El Hervidero the dirt track continues to the Collado de Sevilla with a parking area. A good starting point for many different walking, running and mountain bike routes. It is also a nice spot for star gazing. From here it is six kilometres to the botanical garden La Cortijuela. On this photo you see a number of summits like Cerro de Huénes, Pico de la Carne, Cerro Gordo, the snowcapped Cerro de Caballo and to the far right the Trevenque.
